Tennis: Morocco Rolled out from Davis Cup
Morocco, Sports, 2/11/2002

Morocco was rolled out Sunday from The Davis cup following a 2-3 loss to Spain in a first round match played in Zaragoza.

Youness Al-Aynaoui, Morocco's leading player, made tremendous efforts during the showdown to pull his side to draw with Spain every time the Spaniards were leading the score.

In the first day, Al-Aynaoui defeated Alex Corretja and made up for an earlier loss of his countryman Hicham Arazi to Ferrero.

The Moroccans lost their chance to make it to the quarterfinals when Arazi and Karim Alami lost an easy double against Corretja and Joan Balcels.

On Sunday, Al-Aynaoui again brought the two side to a draw, when he defeated ferrero on Sunday. However, the chance was squandered, when Alami lost to Corretja, giving Spain a difficult 3-2 victory.

Spain cruised to the quarterfinals, while Morocco will have to play a play off to remain with the world group, which musters the best 16 teams in the planet.
