European parliament follows with interest maghreb union construction

The European parliament is following with great interest evolution of the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA) construction, said here Sunday member of the European parliament, Philipe Morillion, who is visiting Mauritania.

European representatives are convinced of the usefulness of this grouping, bound to become a European Union's privileged partner in the Mediterranean, he said following a meeting with Mauritanian president Mouaouyia Ould Sid Ahmed Taya.

After telling reporters that he was tasked to compile a report on the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA/grouping Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia), he said his talks with the Mauritanian president covered prospects opened by the Algiers meeting of UMA foreign minister (last January) and the Nouakchott session of Maghreban equipment and public works ministers, last week.
