Two exhibitions for the Syrian products in Baghdad
Iraq-Syria, Economics, 2/11/2002

The Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan on Sunday in Baghdad opened two exhibitions for the Syrian products in the presence of the minister of supply and internal trade in Syria Bassam Rustoum and the Iraqi foreign trade minister Mahdi Saleh.

In statements to the press following the inauguration ceremony, Ramadan said that relations between Iraq and Syria have achieved important strides towards an integrated economy and the realization of the common Arab market. He added that the holding of exhibitions in the two states is an opportunity to acquaint citizens with the products and the developed industry as well as to draw future plans for an industrial base in the two states.

He added that economic relations between Iraq and Syria since the signing of the free trade agreement and founding joint companies constitute the basic base to inter- Arab relations.

Worthy mentioning that some 100 companies are taking in the first exhibition and the participating produces display foodstuffs, pharmaceutical and engineering items besides garments and electrical and electronic equipment.

The second exhibition which is organized by the Syrian Scientific Society for Informatics in collaboration with the Iraqi fairs general company exhibits laboratory and scientific equipment and computer processing programs.

The Syrian supply minister arrived in Baghdad on Friday to take part in the two exhibitions and to hold talks with the Iraqi officials.

Worthy mentioning that Syria and Iraq have signed agreements covering the foundation of seven various companies in the industrial, pharmaceutical, and telecom areas as well as cooperation in the fields of transport, health, and commerce. The two states signed a free trade agreement by the end of last January.
