Iraq: Saddam Hussein will not take part in Beirut's summit
Iraq-Regional, Politics, 2/11/2002
The chairman of the Iraqi national council Sadoun Hammadi said on Sunday that the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein will not take part in the next Arab summit due to be held in Beirut in March "for security reasons."
In a press conference he held in Khartoum, Hammadi said "it is known for all that President Saddam is the target of American- Zionist conspiracies."
Worthy mentioning that Saddam Hussein did not leave Iraq since the Gulf crisis in 1990. On January 22, the Iraqi president announced that his country will take part in the summit but without clarifying whether he will be attending or not.
