Iraq refuses to give more concessions
Iraq, Politics, 2/11/2002
Iraq has renewed its rejections to give more concessions to the US, stressing simultaneously its readiness to open unconditional dialogue with the UN with the aim to lift the sanctions imposed on it since more than 11 years.
In statements he made in Baghdad on Sunday, the Iraqi vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan said that the US rejection, as stated by its secretary of state Colin Powell, to the Iraqi offer, initiating a dialogue with the US is a matter of concern to it and does not annoy Baghdad, noting that Washington keeps on asking for more concessions.
On the other hand, the director of Iraq's program at the UN said he has discussed on Sunday with Ramadan issues relating to the oil-for-food agreement.
In statements to the press in conclusion of the visit to Iraq lasted for 25 days, the UN official said he is pleased over solving problems during the talks he held with the Iraqi officials, noting that only one or two topics were not settled. He gave no more details.
