Moroccan, Chinese businessmen sign mou
Morocco-China, Economics, 2/7/2002
Morocco's King Mohammed VI chaired Thursday evening in Shanghai the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between Moroccan and Chinese businessmen.
The MOU, initialed by chairman of the Moroccan employers' association, La Confederation Generale des Entreprises du Maroc (CGEM), Hassan Chami, and chairman of the Shanghai sub-council of the Chinese center for the promotion of international trade (CCPIT), Wu Chenglin, is meant to promote trade relations between the two countries.
Under the accord, the two countries' businessmen, being aware of the need to multiply efforts to exploit the opportunities offered by globalization, agree to expand the scope of bilateral cooperation to new realms, mainly those of investment, industry, technology and trade.
The two sides will encourage and ease any action likely to promote economic and trade exchanges and to enhance partnership between enterprises and will ease the striking of deals and other trade accords between the companies authorized to conduct foreign trade operations. They will also encourage contacts between trade organizations and exchange of visits between business, trade and industrial delegations.
Several missions from the CCIPT have already visited Morocco and Moroccan businessmen made trips to China.
Moroccan-Chinese trade exchanges are still weak. They totaled only 3.21 billion Dirhams (nearly US$ 279.13 million) in 2000.
At the end of the accord signing ceremony, the sovereign hosted a function in honor of the Moroccan and Chinese businessmen.
