Bahrain: Four Shiite activists on the American blacklist
Bahrain-USA, Politics, 2/7/2002
The elder son of the prominent Bahraini clergy Sheikh Abdul Ameer al-Jamri said that the Bahraini authorities informed him together with other three Shiite activists the need to be cautious to travelling abroad because their names are listed on the American " blacklist."
He explained "we were summoned, me, together with Sheikh Ali Salman, Hassan Musheimaa and Adel al-Shatta on Tuesday to inform us the need to be cautious when travelling abroad because our names are within an American list." Al-Jamri refused to comment, noting that persons concerned will issue a collective position later.
Meantime, the official responsible for the public relations at the American list for terrorist lists denied the existence of names of Bahraini citizens on the American list for terrorist organizations or individuals suspected to carry out terrorist acts. A Shiite activist asked not to be identified said that the matter might be linked to "a false list produced by the Bahraini intelligence in 1996, noting that American officials might have enlisted it in the American project to fight terrorism."
