Kuwait: A fire at al Shueiba oil refinery in Kuwait

A Kuwaiti official said that a break took place in one of the refinery's pressing equipment and a small fire caused the closure of the hydrogen unit of a capacity of 36,000 barrels of oil per day in al-Shueiba oil refinery.

The director of the refinery Hussein Ismael said that the pressing unit was broken on Tuesday evening because of this " mechanical problem" and fire erupted in the leaked oil. The director of the smallest oil refinery in the country said that "the pressing unit was closed .. and that the incident resulted in no casualties." In the mid of 2000 two persons were killed in an explosion in al-Shueiba but the incident had no effect on the production.

However, focus has been on oil industry in Kuwait in the recent days after a tremendous explosion at al-Rawdatin station in the north resulted in the suspension of one third of production of crude oil in the country.

Moreover, al-Ahmadi refinery, one of the three largest refineries in Kuwait was exposed to a large explosion in the mid of 2000 and this resulted in killing 6 persons.
