Powell confers with Bin Aliazer in Washington
Israel-USA, Politics, 2/7/2002

The US secretary of state Colin Powell on Tuesday evening in Washington met with the Israeli defense minister Benjamin Bin Aliazer and reviewed with him the American and European efforts to calm down the situation in the Palestinian territories.

The Israeli radio said that Powell urged Bin Aliazer during the meeting to work for alleviating the sufferings of the Palestinians and to control the security situation.

For his part Bin Aliazer repeated the conditions of the Israeli prime minister on the need to end the Intifada and to give at least seven days of total calm before starting a dialogue with the Palestinian Authority.

Bin Aliazer also called for giving up schedules stated in the Tenet's document and to start negotiations from the "Zero point" once again and simultaneously renewed Sharon's demands on the need of eliminating the Palestinian Intifada, arresting Palestinian activists and collecting the weapons from the Palestinians.
