United Arab Emirates-Morocco, Economics, 2/6/2002
The Moroccan port of Casablanca and the Port of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, have been twinned under an act signed in Abu Dhabi Tuesday.
The twinning act provides for trading experience and information in matters of improvement of administrative skills and improvement of ports operation, port traffic techniques, and goods handling.
It also stipulates cooperation in civil engineering, and protection, surveillance and management of port facilities, while taking into account environment protection.
The act was signed by director general of the Moroccan port authority (ODEP), Mustapha Birouk, and director general of the Ports of Dubai, Jamal Majed.
A Moroccan delegation, led by minister of equipment, Bouamour Taghouane, is currently visiting the United Arab Emirates, for talks on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and trade expertise in matters of dams construction and water.
The delegation, which arrived in Abu Dhabi Sunday, will probe progress made in the construction of the Emirates' ports of Oued Safd and Chaouka, that are being built by the Moroccan equipment department, under a cooperation agreement with the UAE ministry of agriculture and sea resources.
Cooperation between Morocco and the Abu Dhabi development fund was also probed at a meeting Monday between Taghouane and the Fund Director General, Said Khalfan Matar Ermiti.
The two sides surveyed investment relations between Morocco and the United Arab Emirates as well as the various Moroccan projects financed by the fund.
These projects include the construction of the Mediterranean bypass to link the northern Moroccan cities of Al Hoceima and Nador, for a total cost of US$ 60 million.
