Iraq calls Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to deal with war prisoners issue
Iraq-Kuwait, Politics, 2/6/2002
The chairman of the people's commission for searching for the Iraqi missing during the Gulf war Munzir Ahmad al-Mutlaq said that Iraq does not have any Kuwaiti or Saudi prisoners. He called on both Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to embark on a common formula in order to form committees from the three countries to discuss the fate of the missing since the Gulf war in 1991.
Al-Mutlaq added that the best and rightful solution to search for the fate of the missing lies in reaching an Iraqi, Kuwaiti and Saudi formula in order to establish joint committee so as to find decisive solution either according to the Islamic Sharea jurisprudence or according to the international laws.
On the other hand, the Iraqi official welcomed the statement made by the Saudi minister of the Interior prince Nayef Bin Abdul Aziz last week in which he said that there are no Saudi prisoners held by Iraq, noting that this announcement made by the Saudi minister is but a good initiative to deal with this humanitarian issue.
