Yemeni fund for promoting culture

The Yemeni ministry of culture has started preparations for founding the first financial fund to promote Yemeni culture after the Yemeni parliament has approved a draft law to this effect.

News reports said that the Yemeni "Heritage and cultural development Fund" which was founded aims at reviving what was described as "Stalemate " the artistic and cultural movement in the country suffers and this will be through providing financial support to cultural activities, plans and programs as well as presenting literary and musical works and plastic art and theatre shows and performances.

The fund also aims at preserving the Yemeni antiquities and historical monuments, establishing museums and protecting and renovating ancient manuscripts.

The fund's list of interests also includes honoring the freedom of expression and encouraging private researches and studies on cultural heritage and encouraging studies and researches on cultural heritage as well as boosting handicrafts, and embroidery and drawing necessary programs to preserve them' Intellectuals in Yemen hope that the fund would basically contribute to creating a Yemeni cultural revolution they have been dreaming of.

The financing of the fund will be by several sources like imposing extra fees on sold locally made or imported cigarettes, from the state's general budget as well as aids and donations offered by individuals and local and international organizations, besides the revenues of entry tickets to archaeological sites.
