Association calls for inquiry in siphoning of parcels sent to Moroccan prisoners detained in Algeria
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 2/4/2002
The Moroccan Sahara association called international organizations to open an investigation in the case of parcels sent by families of people detained in the Tindouf camps but never reached their destinations.
The association says it has conducted a survey 6 months ago with 93 released detainees, their families and international Ngos and found out that 150,000 parcels sent in two decades by families never reached their imprisoned relatives. They were actually embezzled by the Polisario separatists for personal ends in total violation of international conventions and laws.
The families of those detained in the Polisario prisons on Algerian territory continue to send parcels to their relatives via the delegation of the International Red Cross Committee in Tunis, but since the IRCC only visits them twice a year it conveys the parcels to the Polisario representation in Algeria, says the association.
