Syrian- Turkish border strip to be prepared for cultivation

The governor of the Turkish emergency area of "Kokhan Idneer" has announced that preliminary works relating to cleansing the border strip area between Syria and Turkey from mines will start within one week for the purpose of using it in the area of agriculture.
He added in a press statement issued on Sunday in Ankara that the project of cleaning the whole border line will lead to acquiring new agricultural lands of an area of 3.5 million dunnums, equal, doubling the area of the island of Cyprus. He added that this project will be carried out jointly with the 7th army along the border extended between Sharnaq province to Samandagh town in Hatai (Iskandaroun Sanjak).
Worthy mentioning that areas of lands at a width of 300-700 meters are implanted by mines along the joint Syrian- Turkish borders estimated at 877 Km of Sharnaq province to Iskandaroun Gulf in 1956 in order to prevent smuggling between the two countries.
