Poland official address Middle East situation
Regional-Poland, Politics, 2/2/2002
In exclusive remarks to Al-Gomhuria Andrzej Bert, Acting Foreign Minister of Poland expressed his country's keenness on developing and boosting relations with Egypt in all domains.
He said that such concern was quite obvious during the meetings between President Hosni Mubarak and President Alexander Kwasniewski, and pointed that there is an invitation to President Mubarak to visit Poland, which is looking forward for this visit, as Egypt is a politically stable state.
On the conformable points of view in respect of combatting terrorism, he said that both Egypt and Poland have succeeded in combating terrorism by virtue of their geographical sites.
He added that confronting terrorism should go on two levels, namely direct strikes against terrorist movements, beside the political level.
He termed the partnership agreement with Europe as a very significant step to consolidate the good relations between the European Union (EU) and the Mediterranean countries, foremost of which is Egypt.
As for Israeli practices, he said that his country regards the situation in the Middle East with great concern, as it impacts on the political stability in the region.
He voiced hope that the talks between Israel and the Palestinians would restart, although it seems that the Israeli government is not willing to do so.
He said that Poland can take part in the peace-keeping forces in Palestine if a decision was taken in this respect.
He pointed that the peace process, based on Madrid agreement and the principle of "Land for Peace" is suspended due to the sharp differences between the two sides.
Negotiations, he said, could be resumed if the violence was stopped.
