ISESCO condemns harassment of Arab and Muslim students in west countries
Regional, Local, 2/2/2002
The Islamic Organization of Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO/based in Rabat) denounced harassment measures of Arab and Muslim students in the USA, Britain and other western countries.
A statement released Friday by ISESCO, which is a body of the Organization of Islamic Conference, cites arbitrary arrests, humiliations in prisons and civil rights violations of Arab and Muslim students. The Organization condemns these "unfair and inhumane" practices that run counter to international law, provisions of the universal human rights declaration and international covenants.
ISESCO also calls human rights-advocacy institutions and international organizations to denounce these behaviors and urges them to take urgent action to inquire about the state of Arab and Muslim students held in western countries prisons and endeavor for their release and for the enjoyment of their rights which authorize them to carry on their studies and lead a normal life free of any restrictions other than those in force in the host countries.
