Morocco's King Mohammed VI flew this Saturday to Saudi Arabia for a "brotherhood and friendship" visit, first leg of a trip to some Asian countries

Saudi ambassador in Morocco, Abdelaziz Mohieddine Khouja, told MAP the visit will give a new impetus to Moroccan-Saudi relations and yield positive results at the political and economic fields.

The Saudi diplomat noted that bilateral economic relations are witnessing a significant evolution and will further develop thanks to efforts by the high joint commission, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI and Saudi leaders.

He also announced that the Moroccan-Saudi high commission will be meeting next April and voiced his country's will to further develop economic cooperation with Morocco in fields of investments, noting the success of several Saudi investments in Morocco, mainly in tourism. He added that the two countries' leaders are keen on creating the soonest a free-trade area.

Saudi- Moroccan trade relations have been greatly developed recently when the volume of trade exchange increased in 2000 to USD 659.6 million for USD 410.9 million in 1999.

After Saudi Arabia, the sovereign will thus be paying from Feb.5 through Feb.7 an official visit to China at the invitation of Jiang Zemin, president of the People's Republic of China, it was officially announced here on Friday.

On his way back from China, the king will visit the royal family of Thailand and will meet Thai premier, before undertaking a "brotherhood and friendship" visit to the United Arab Emirates.
