Saddam Hussein calls on Kuwait to send inspectors to search for the Kuwaiti prisoners
Iraq-Kuwait, Politics, 1/31/2002
The Iraqi president, has once again stressed that there are no Kuwaiti prisoners in Iraq, calling on Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to send delegations to his country in order to investigate this matter, according to the Iraqi official TV.
Upon presiding over a meeting for the Iraqi Cabinet, President Saddam Hussein said:" we have told the whole world that we do not have any prisoners. What are we do with them?"
He continued addressing the Arabs, the Kuwaitis and the Saudis:" Come in on a plane suddenly to Baghdad and say you have certain places that you want to see according to your information . And we do agree on that." Saddam Hussein said:" we do accept these visits to be carried out suddenly, when they want and to open the doors of any palace except the houses of citizens. As this matter related to the citizens themselves."
On January 9, the Iraqi foreign minister Naji Sabri announced Baghdad's readiness to receive a Kuwaiti delegation in order to discuss the question of the Kuwaiti missing since the Gulf war in 1991, but the Kuwaiti foreign ministry secretary Khaled Suleiman al-Jarallah announced his country's rejection to this proposal.
