Morocco-USA, Economics, 1/30/2002
The US Agency of International Development (USAID) has donated hospitals in the Moroccan southern region medical equipment worth US$ 420,000 for their maternity wards.
The donation ceremony was held in the presence of US ambassador to Morocco, Margaret Tutwiler and health minister, Thami El Khyari, who underscored that the US administration is Morocco's most active foreign partner in reproductive health matters.
The US ambassador cited efforts by the Moroccan government and progress achieved in reproductive and children health over the last 30 years.
The donation is part of the Morocco-US "Progress" program, a regional project of regional management of health services. The US$ 100,000-worth program also includes training for paramedics and improving public mothers health services.
The U.S. ambassador also visited one of the 30 villages targeted by the Rural Civil Society Development project meant to involve non-governmental organizations in water-supply and drought effects control actions.
During a meeting with the press, the U.S ambassador renewed the Us administration's resolve to support Morocco's development efforts and said she was convinced that administrative reforms undertaken by the Kingdom will yield their results in attracting US investors, citing the royal letter on devolution of investments management.
