Morocco, India initial MOU on industrial cooperation
Morocco-India, Economics, 1/30/2002

Morocco and India initialed last week a memorandum of understanding in the industrial sector.

The MOU between the Moroccan and the Indian industrial development offices was signed during the 3rd session of the Moroccan-Indian high joint commission held Jan.23-25 in Rabat.

During the session, Moroccan secretary of state for foreign trade, Abdelkrim Ben Atik and his Indian peer, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, underlined the exemplary political relations existing between the two countries but deplored the weak volume of trade exchanges that do not exceed US$ 400 million.

The two sides stressed the need for the two countries to explore new prospects for their cooperation, identify obstacles hampering the development of trade flows and explore promising sectors so that exchanges, as put by Ben Atik, reach $ 1.0 billion.

Ben Atik announced that a delegation of Moroccan businessmen will visit New Delhi in April, while Rudy said the coming session of the joint commission to be held in India will mainly seek to establish a strong partnership between the two countries in several sectors. He mentioned several fields for a fruitful cooperation between Moroccan and Indian operators such as pharmaceutical industries, information technologies, infrastructure and engineering.
