Saudi crown prince criticizes the US bias stand to Israel
Saudi Arabia-USA, Politics, 1/30/2002

The Saudi crown prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz has expressed his opposition to the stand taken by the US over developments taking place in the Palestinian territories, noting that this American stand " can not be defended."

In statements to the US dailies " New York Times" and " Washington Post" issued on Tuesday, the Saudi crown prince added that Washington has angered most of the Arabs in its keeping a blind eye on the Palestinian civilians who are murdered in the Palestinian Intifada by the Israeli occupation forces.

He explained that the US has the duty of using its conscience in rejecting repression, noting that that are "children who are killed by Israeli bullets, houses demolished, trees uprooted, persons arrested, lands blocked, women killed and new babies born at inspection points installed by the Israeli occupation forces." The Saudi crown prince said that these are very painful pictures, noting that Saudi Arabia's concern is over reasons that pushed people to violence and the motives that dragged them to carry out " martyrdom" operations.

On the Saudi - American relations, the Saudi crown prince stressed that these relations are strong, noting he does not think there is a change in the relations between the two countries and sees no justification for any change.

Concerning the call advocated by Iraq to maintain inter- Arab reconciliation, the Saudi crown prince said in a statement issued by the Saudi daily al-Jazira replying to a question, the Saudi crown prince said it is the right of Iraq to restore relations between it and each of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Iraq is an Arab country and its right as an Arab state to call for inter- Arab reconciliation.

This Saudi position, however, comes following the visit made by the Jordanian King Abdullah II to Saudi Arabia in his capacity as the current president for the current Arab summit. The King's visit to al-Riyadh also came following a tour made by the secretary general of the Arab league Amre Mousa to Kuwait, Amman and al-Riyadh and Baghdad before.
