African football cup: Morocco has one choice: win game against South Africa, coach
Morocco, Sports, 1/29/2002

Morocco's Portuguese manager, Humberto Cuelho, said his team has no choice but defeat South Africa to be able to move to the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations (CAN-2002), currently held in Mali.

"Victory is the sole option for us to finish on top of our group B," said Cuelho after a warm up session of the Atlas Lions of Morocco in Segou.

Morocco leads Group B with 4 points from one draw and one victory, ahead of South Africa and Ghana (2 points) and Burkina Faso (1 point). Mathematically, the Moroccans need only a draw against South Africa on Wednesday to move to the second round.

Cuelho admitted that the match against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa will not be a walkover, as the World Cup qualifier have strong strikers able to shake the Moroccan defence.

The South Africans will have to battle for victory to qualify for the quarterfinal, as Ghana and Burkina Faso still keep odds to make it in case of victory.
