Football: Morocco says it has strong odds to host world cup 2010

Morocco, which failed to host the World Cup in 1994, 1998 and 2006, said it has stronger odds to host the planetary event in 2010.

"Morocco has strong odds to host the world cup finals in 2010. We will make a stronger bid to reach this objective," Moroccan youth and sports minister, Ahmed Moussaoui, told the Moroccan TV channel TVM on Monday.

"Our odds will be stronger and we will be able to make for the deficit in terms of infrastructure," he said, recalling King Mohammed VI's initiatives to build three new sports facilities in Agadir, Marrakesh and Tangiers.

Moussaoui said Morocco will present to a technical commission of the world football governing body (FIFA), when it will be visiting Morocco, a strong file with existing facilities and infrastructures. The file will not include only models as was the case in the past, he said.

FIFA President, Joseph Blatter, had announced that the 2010 World Cup will be held in Africa, which has never staged such an event.

The Moroccan minister declined that his department ever received any proposal from Algeria on a possible joint bid to co-host the event.
