$ 3.7 billion, losses of the Palestinian Intifada
Palestine, Economics, 1/29/2002

International reports have warned against the consequences of the escalated conditions in the West Bank and Gaza as a result of the continued Israeli aggressions and targeting the Palestinian infrastructure.

The reports quoted economists at the UN as saying that the siege imposed by Israel on the Palestinian territories cost the Palestinian economy more than USD 3 billion since the eruption of the Intifada in all fields.

The siege also led to increasing unemployment to 35% in the West Bank and 50% in Gaza and raised the poverty rate among the Palestinian into 46% of the total number of the population.

The economists said that Israel's destruction of the Palestinian establishments led to preventing the Palestinians from running their own affairs and getting basic living needs.
