Coordination continued between Mubarak, PA
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 1/26/2002
"The Palestinian Authority coordinates with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Egyptian officials in all moves it takes," Palestinian Legislative Council Speaker Ahmed Korei said on Friday. Korei said that the initiative which France adopted to bring the Palestinian and Israeli peoples together, through the invitation which he extended to Israeli Knesset Speaker Avrum Borg to address the Palestinian parliament, has been coordinated with Egypt.
The PLC chief described the initiative as a diplomatic parliamentary effort aimed to boost Palestinian political movements.
Korei denied reports that the warm welcome he was given in France, particularly by President Jacques Chirac and Prime Minister Lionel Jospin, was part of a new trend to replace Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat with a new leader.
Arafat is the elected President, confirmed Korei, adding that all Palestinian leaders looked up to Arafat as the symbol of 50 years of Palestinian struggle, with no one up to the task of replacing him.
