The Economic Research Forum (ERF), based in Cairo, has been established to create a Middle East and North Africa research community that spans the Mediterranean Partners plus Iran, and the Gulf Countries.
ERF receives financial support from the European Commission, the World Bank, and other institutions for its operations. The Forum is one of the co-ordinators of the FEMISE II Project, together with the Marseilles-based "Institut de la M?diterran?e."
The FEMISE Network brings together more than 100 universities and research institutes in EU countries and the 12 Mediterranean Partners. The main activity of the network is to carry out socio-economic research on themes considered as priorities within the Barcelona Process, including the Impact of Association Agreements, Trade in Services, Capital Flows, Economic Transition and the Poor, and the Consequences of EU Enlargement. The FEMISE II Project (2001-2005) is an extension of FEMISE I (1999-2001) with an EU contribution of 6.3 million.
