Investments in fishery sector increase by 30 % in 2001

Investments in the fishery sector in Morocco amounted to 395 million Dirhams (about US$ 34.34 million) in 2001, recording an increase of 30 percent compared to 2000.
According to the newsletter of the department of maritime fishery industries, 32 new units were created in 2001, 4 units resumed operation and 7 others were enlarged.
Forecasts for 2002 expect investments in the sector to grow by 10%, mainly thanks to the promotion of freezing and canning industries. Fish flour industries will on the contrary witness a decrease of activities, the newsletter says.
