Belgian judiciary to decide over the compliant against Sharon on March 6
Israel-Belgium, Politics, 1/25/2002
A Judicial source in Brussels has reported that the court of appeal in Brussels will initially on March 6 take its decision on accepting the complaint filed against Ariel Sharon on his possible responsibility in the committed Sabra and Shatilla massacres.
The court will discuss for the third time the open measure against the current Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon following the case filed against him by 23 Palestinians who survived from the massacres which took place in Sabra and Shatilla camps in the outskirts of Beirut in 1982. Once again the Attorney General ruled out evidences provided by the defendant committee for Sharon.
The two sides of the compliant have a "grace period" that expires on January 30th to submit new possible final statements.
The complaint against Sharon is based on a Belgian law issued in 1993 and gives an international authority to Belgian courts in order to reconsider war crimes and war of extermination against humanity wherever these crimes are committed and regardless the nationality of the verdicts and where they do live.
