Al-Shara confers with Aziz on latest developments
Syria-Iraq, Politics, 1/24/2002

Syria's Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara received in Damascus on Tuesday Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Aziz and members of the accompanying delegation.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Foreign Minister Suleiman Haddad, the Director of the Ministry's Arab Homeland Department Issa Darweesh and the chief of the Iraqi Interests Section in Damascus Rifaat al-Aani.

Talks during the meeting dealt with latest developments in the regional and international arenas, especially the conditions of the Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied territories, the continuation of Israel aggression and the pretexts it manipulates to cover up terrorist attacks against the Palestinian people.

Discussion also centered on a number of Arab causes, ways of enhancing joint Arab action in terms of the Arab League activities and the forthcoming Arab summit due in Beirut late March.

Meantime, the Turkish foreign minister Ismael Cem said that the relations between Syria and Turkey are developing, particularly in the economic and security fields.

In a statement he made to journalists following a meeting with the commander of Armour forces General Itach Yalman, Cem said that talks dealt with the Yalman's visit recently paid to Syria.
