Arab nation suffers real crisis
Regional, Politics, 1/23/2002

Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa said the Arab nation faces a historic challenge and undergoes a real crisis on the regional and Arab domains.

Addressing a seminar on the sidelines of the Cairo International Book Fair late Tuesday, Moussa said there are other challenges such as the future ,security ,and stability of the region ,as well as the Palestinian issue, which is currently frozen at a critical juncture.

"There has been a new world attitude following the September 11 attacks,' said Moussa.

Others want a single-item agenda which is international terrorism and each country should be dealt with according to its approach to this items", he added.

"Arabs still believe that the agenda should not be exclusive to fighting international terrorism as there are other important issues such as the Palestinian cause, peace and accusations levelled at the Arab civilization, 'the Arab League Chief said.

"The Israeli government thinks that the UN Security Council can not condemn it because it is protected by a superpower and believes it is time to impose an Israeli peace not only on Palestine but also on the whole Middle East", Moussa added.

"Israel seeks to market its final peace product which is a Palestinian surrender approved or facilitated by Arab countries but it would not have it because no single arab leader can accept the Israeli hegemony", he said.

The Arab stand vis-a-vis expanding the war in Afghanistan is quite clear and the message is that striking any Arab country would not be as easy as they think, Moussa said, stressing that "Iraq is not Afghanistan."
