Positive developments in the Libyan- French relations

The current week has been witnessing intensive Libyan- French contacts and meetings at more than one level. At the political level, the assistant secretary general of the foreign relations at the Libyan people's general congress Suleiman al-Shahoumi is in a visit to France on top of a huge delegation. The visit will be ended on Friday.

A full program was prepared for al-Shahoumi including meetings with high ranking French officials, especially the French Senate chief and the minister of the Franchophonic and cooperation.

In addition to bilateral relations and issues on the Arab region the two sides will discuss Libya's relations with the European Union.

The Libyan foreign minister Abdul Rahman Shalqam took part in November, 2001 in the meeting of the EU and Mediterranean region foreign ministers which was held in Marseilles, as an observer.
