Arab customs director meet in Cairo

Heads and directors of customs departments in the Arab states will discuss during their meeting which started on Monday at the headquarters of the Arab League issues relating to following up the implementation of the greater Arab free trade area measures and the stand of the Arab states towards the actual implementation of this area.
In their two- day deliberations, the participants in the meeting are discussing the draft multilateral agreement on reciprocated administrative cooperation among the Arab states with the Arab states to prevent customs violations.
A report by the Arab League (AL) indicated that some 14 Arab states informed the AL general secretariat that they had in 2001 implemented the set reduction on commodities at 40% and that the project of the details principles of origin for commodities was completed by the Arab Organization for industrial development and the Arab organization for Agricultural development.
The AL asked customs directors to notify the customs openings at a new reduction rate of 10% so as the total reduction tolled 50% on the commodities.
On the other hand, the regional office of the world customs organization of the Middle East and North Africa held a meeting on Monday to discuss Palestine's joining of the World's Customs Organization in Brussels and to use the Arabic language in the meetings of the organization.
