Al-Shara confers with US permanent representative at the UN

The foreign minister Farouk al-Shara on Monday received the US permanent representative at the UN John Negro Ponty, members of the accompanying delegation and the US ambassador in Damascus Theodore Kattouf. The meeting was attended by high ranking Syrian foreign ministry officials and the Syrian permanent representative at the UN Mikhael Wahbeh.
Discussions during the meeting dealt with regional and international developments in the region. Stress was laid on co-operation between the Syrian and American delegations at the UN security council in order to enhance the role played by the UN in dealing with basic issues in the world, according to UN charter principle through a just and objective vision away from double- standard policies.
John Negro- Ponty described his talks with al-Shara as constructive and that it was agreed to cooperate effectively with Syria's representative at the UN Security Council.
The US official said in a statement to journalists following the meeting that matters relating to the UN Security Council were reviewed. He said that his visit to Damascus aims at holding consultations and exchanging views with the Syrian officials. He also indicated that his talks dealt with the question of terrorism in the world. He said the two sides agreed to deal with this matter constructively.
