Jordan-Afghanistan, Local, 1/22/2002
A Jordanian at 27 year old was killed in Afghanistan so as number of Jordanians killed there tolled 6.
Sources close to the family of Issam Tammouni said it has received news of his killing and burial through the ICRC after three years of his secret departure to Afghanistan through Turkey.
The same sources explained that Tammouni family opened their house for condolences over the death of their son Issam, in Orbid, to the north of Amman, the second largest city in Jordan whose population is over one million.
According to well-informed sources, Issam, known for his religious commitment, left his birth place without telling his family about them and after few days he phoned them to inform about his new plans, despite the fact that his only (she) baby was not yet one week old when he left her and her mom in Jordan.
The same sources said that Issam was jailed for three years in the mid of the 1990s under charges of being members at al- Takfir and al-Hajra organization. It is one of at least ten presumed terrorist networking dismantled by the Jordanian authorities during the past decade.
