Kuwaiti officials discuss with Iranian president the Iraqi threats
Kuwait-Iran, Politics, 1/21/2002

The Kuwaiti minister of state for foreign affairs Sheikh Muhammad al-Salem al-Sabah said he had discussed with the Iranian President Muhammad Khatami, the question of the Kuwaiti prisoners held by Iraq and the Iraqi threats against Kuwait.

Sheikh Muhammad indicated during his meeting with the press on Saturday evening that he found that the Iranians are carrying the same feelings the Kuwaitis have especially regarding the sufferings concerning the question of prisoners.

The Kuwaiti minister said that the Iranian president stressed to him that his country will raise with the Iraqi side and at all levels and meetings the question of the Kuwaiti prisoners.

Sheikh Muhammad has denied his visit to Tehran to be linked to the forthcoming visit to be held by the Iraqi foreign minister to Tehran nor to have any political implication, or to aim at briefing with the Iranian view point whether the American forces will launch a military attack against Iraq.
