Korea, Morocco hold talks on advancing it cooperation
Morocco-South Korea, Economics, 1/19/2002

Korean Information and communication minister, Yang Seung-taik, and Moroccan post and information technology secretary of state, Nasr Hajji, discussed in Soul Friday ways to enhance information technology (IT) cooperation, Korean news agency YONHAP reported, quoting the Korean Ministry of Information and Communication.

During the meeting, Yang Seung-taik briefed Nasr Hajji about Korea's "Cyber Korea 21" program and research and development efforts to raise the level of indigenous technology. He also said that measures were being taken to generate funds to further support IT development.

Yang requested that Rabat also consider code division multiple access (CDMA) for Morocco's next generation mobile telecommunication system. He also said that there was plenty of room for technical tie ups involving high speed asymmetrical digital subscriber lines (ADSL) and system integration (SI).

The two officials said that Korea's level of expertise in this field was well suited to help Morocco set up an electronic infrastructure.

Minister Hajji, in particular, outlined moves to open his country's telecommunication sector and requested that Korean IT companies participate in the 2003 bid for new telecommunication operations and Casablanca's Techno Park. Morocco is a rising star amongst North African countries with the young King Mohammed VI actively promoting economic development and foreign cooperation, YONHAP said.
