New secretary general for Arab Maghreb Union

Tunisian Lahbib Boulares has been installed as the new secretary general of the Arab Maghreb Union in replacement of Mohamed Amamou, another Tunisian.
Boulares, a former minister of defense, of foreign affairs, of information and culture, and a former speaker of the Tunisian parliament, was named to the position at a proposal by the Tunisian President. The Other Maghreban leaders endorsed the proposal.
Boulares was installed in his new position Thursday in Algiers during the 19th session of the council of foreign ministers of the UMA member countries.
Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa, who took part in the council session, told the new chief of the Rabat-based UMA secretariat general that Morocco and all Moroccan governmental institutions will extend him all necessary assistance and backing to help him fulfil his mission in best conditions.
Boulares, a writer and former journalist, voiced determination to work for Maghreban unity that he described as imperative.
The outgoing UMA secretary general could not carry on his mission for health reasons.
