Mubarak meets US envoy to Sudan
Egypt-USA, Politics, 1/17/2002

US peace envoy to Sudan John Danforth Wednesday said that he would meet President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo on Thursday.

John Danforth told a press conference in Khartoum that no progress was made during his five-day trip to Sudan.

John Danforth is due in Cairo on Thursday on a two-day visit to Egypt for talks with a number of senior officials including Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher.

US embassy sources said Wednesday Danforth's talks in Cairo will focus on problems of South Sudan and initiatives made to settle the situation there in addition to the impact of such problems on development in Africa.

Meanwhile, the US representative to the United Nations will arrive in Egypt on Saturday on a two-day visit within the framework of a tour of the region that will take him to Syria as well.

He will hold talks with a number of senior officials on coordinating Egyptian-American stances at international organisations.
