Moroccan fair in Baghdad in march
Iraq-Morocco, Economics, 1/17/2002

Morocco and Iraq agreed to hold a fair on Moroccan medical equipment and a Moroccan medical week in Baghdad by the end of next March.

The decision was made at a meeting in Baghdad Wednesday between Iraqi minister of health, Oumid Midhat, and a visiting Moroccan business delegation, led by secretary of state for foreign trade, Abdelkrim Ben Atiq.

The meeting provided opportunity to the Moroccan professionals to get informed on the specificity and needs of the Iraqi market, mainly in matters of hormones and cancer treatment drugs.

The Moroccan delegation, which started Monday a three-day visit to Iraq held a series of meetings with several other Iraqi officials and businessmen, including Iraqi-Vice-President, Taha Yassine Ramadane, the ministers of trade, finance, and the interior as well as officials from the sectors of electricity, housing and irrigation.

Talks covered investment opportunities in Iraq and ways of reactivating partnership between the two states.

The Moroccan delegation members, representing the sectors of construction, urbanism and basic infrastructure, voiced determination to promote a genuine partnership with Iraq, while their Iraqi interlocutors expressed readiness to extend all necessary assistance to Moroccan businessmen wishing to do business in Iraq.

Between October 2000 and May 2001, Morocco sold Iraq US$ 55 million worth of products, in the frame of the oil-for-food program.

The Moroccan delegation had renewed upon arrival in Baghdad Morocco's call for the lifting of the embargo imposed on Iraq for more than 11 years.
