Toshki execution rate doubled
Egypt, Economics, 1/16/2002

Mahmoud Abu Zeid, Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, said Tuesday that execution rate at the Toshki project has doubled as all working at the project are determined to realise the dream of Egyptian citizens of fanning out of the narrow Valley to the new Delta in the south.

Water will be released from the Mubarak giant pumping station into Sheikh Zayed canal in October, he said.

The Minister Tuesday visited the Toshki project in company of a 40-member delegation of the Mediterranean Studies Centre.

The 50-kilometre main canal has been dug in full. More than 100 subterranean water wells have been drilled (each well serves 100 faddans).

Investment companies are at present testing the plantation of various varieties of fruit and vegetables.

The visiting experts lauded the project and said that it was a giant project which is being achieved by Egyptian manpower and Egyptian experience and advanced technology.
