Maher receives Sudanese information minister
Egypt-Sudan, Politics, 1/16/2002

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher on Tuesday received Sudanese Information Minister Mohamed Mahdi Ibrahim, currently visiting Egypt.

Speaking to reporters following the meeting, Maher stressed the depth of Egyptian-Sudanese relations as well as the keenness of the two states in cooperation with other states to achieving security and stability in Sudan.

Maher termed as "excellent" ties between Egypt and Sudan adding that both Cairo and Khartoum were working for boosting them in various fields.

This stance was manifested in the statement issued by the IGAD summit held recently in Khartoum, he added. There has been a desire to coordinate between the Egyptian-Libyan initiative, which is on its way to set a meeting grouping all Sudanese brothers, and the IGAD overture which welcomes coordination with the first one.

Egypt is proceeding in this direction to realise the interests of the Sudanese people and achieve stability in the whole area, he added.

On his part, Ibrahim said the Egyptian-Libyan initiative and the achievement of national reconciliation in Sudan figure high on any talks to be held by brothers south and north of the Valley.

Those topics were also discussed during the meeting, he said.
