Morocco, Economics, 1/15/2002

Morocco's King Mohammed VI laid Tuesday noon the foundation stone of a new train station in the Northern city of Tangiers.

The sovereign heard explanations on the technical characteristics of the station to be built in Malabata district over a surface area of 2,210 M2, and to cost 200 million DH (approximately US$ 17.39 million).

The station is part of a railway complex including two other train stations, Chorf and Maghogha stations. The station to be completed over two years will have a capacity of 3 million passengers per year.

The sovereign also heard explanations on a road network that will connect the train station to down town and to the highway. The road project worth 35 million DH (about $3.04 million) will be financed by the agency for the economic and social development of the northern provinces of the Kingdom.
