Al-Assad confers with the governor of Cordoba
Syria-Spain, Politics, 1/15/2002

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday received the governor of the Spanish city of Cordoba Mrs. Rossa Aghela and members of the accompanying delegation.

The meeting was attended by the governor of Damascus D. Ghassan al-Laham, the Syrian ambassador to Spain and the Spanish ambassador in Damascus.

Discussions dealt with the mission of the Spanish delegation in Damascus and the importance of consolidating friendship ties between Syria and Spain as an assertion to close ties between the cities of Cordoba and Damascus.

Stress was laid on having dialogues between various strata in the two countries and cities at all levels. Replying to inquiries raised by several members of the delegation, the president stressed Syria's commitment to the peace process on the ground of the peace conference. He noted that the cultural matching between Syrian and Spain would qualify Spain to play a role in serving peace in the region.
