Libya and the Beirut summit
Libya-Lebanon, Politics, 1/15/2002
Libya's permanent representative at the Arab League Abdul Menem al-Houni has stressed his country's position towards transferring the forthcoming Arab summit from Beirut to Cairo due to divisions in the lines of the Lebanese government towards the convening of this summit.
In a statement to the London-based al- Sharq al-Awsat daily al-Houni added that " suspicious sides in Lebanon try to foil this Arab summit and to have Libya absent from participation."
He said that Libya has no interests in the disappearance of the founder of the Amal movement Imam Mousa al-Sader, noting that his foes are responsible for his missing. He said that Libya spared no efforts to provide support for the Shiite in Lebanon.
