US congressman renews us support to Baker's initiatives in Sahara issue
Morocco-USA, Politics, 1/14/2002
US congressman, Richard Gephardt, who is leading a US congress delegation in a visit to Morocco, said his country supports initiatives by the UN secretary general's special envoy for the Sahara, James Baker, to find a solution to the Sahara issue.
I think that Baker has made great efforts in developing the settlement plan that we consider as positive. I hope, this is a view shared by all Americans, that a final solution will be reached, he told the Moroccan TV channel "2M."
Gephardt, who is the minority leader at the House of Representatives, and the other congressmen accompanying him were received on Thursday by King Mohammed VI.
Following the audience, he said "America is deeply appreciative of the support and help it received of Morocco since Sep. 11th," expressing hope that the "US will be a constructive partner with Morocco and its people to bring about further economic investments and development."
