With AL's chief coming visit to Baghdad, Iraq intensifies calls for Arab solidarity
Iraq-Regional, Politics, 1/12/2002

Iraq has recently increased its calls for maintaining Arab solidarity and freezing differences. Such calls have been coincided with the approaching date for the visit of the secretary general of the Arab League (AL) Amr Moussa to Baghdad.

However the positive comments made by the Iraqi state- run dailies towards the AL show a change in Baghdad's tone, as Moussa is expected to arrive in Baghdad on January 18 in a second visit for the AL secretary general since the Gulf war in 1990.

This visit aims at preparing for the Arab summit due to be held on March 25 and 26.

The Iraqi daily Babel run by Ode Hussein, son of the Iraqi president Saddam Hussein said in its Thursday's issue that " the AL movement and its secretary general need backing and support as well as concentration of issues of destiny that have to be dealt with."
