Syrian, Lebanese ports monitored by American vessels in the Mediterranean
Regional-USA, Politics, 1/12/2002

The Paris - based weekly " al-Muharrir news" issued on Friday said that the Israeli intelligence ( the Mossad ) unveiled on Tuesday that American naval vessels working in the Mediterranean are monitoring and inspecting ships heading for the Syrian and Lebanese ports in the context of a western campaign against terrorism.

The weekly said that numerous Syria and Lebanese trade vessels were subjected to precise inspection by the American naval forces in the international waters after these ships had left the ports of the two countries.

The paper quoted European intelligence information as saying on Thursday that the American naval vessels in the Mediterranean are actually monitoring coming and outgoing ships to the Syrian, Lebanese and Cypriot ports.

The European intelligence information said the Israeli naval force deployed 8 torpedoes, one sub-marine and several missile- equipped boats off the Lebanese and Syrian coats out of the territorial waters of the two countries last Sunday.
