IGAD summit starts deliberation by a close door meeting

Deliberations of the 9th session of IGAD's session started on Thursday in a close door session presided over by the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir. It was attended by IAGD's states seven presidents.
The works of this summit concentrated on several political issues including the question of peace in Sudan and Somalia in addition to economic, agricultural and environmental issues relating to development and cooperation in humanitarian and health areas.
The meeting was attended by the secretary general of the Arab league Amre Mousa, representatives of the UN secretary general for humanitarian affairs and children, and banning of chemical weapons, the Egyptian foreign minister Ahmad Maher, the secretary of Libyan people's committee Ali Abdul Salaam al-Tureiki and several invitees.
IGAD's summit, the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir stressed that the continued wars and conflicts in the IGAD's states hinders the realization of their ambitions to development and progress.
In an inaugural speech at the IGAD's 9th conference, the Sudanese President called for a regional peace project in the region that makes of it a zone free of wars and conflicts and to concentrate on development and exchanging benefits among the countries of the region.
Al- Bashir called on IGAD's member states to maintain cooperation in order to fight terrorism in the context of international legitimacy and to advocate to the rights of peoples to peace and stability and to honoring human rights.
The Sudanese president commended the debated initiatives to achieve peace in Somalia especially the efforts made by the President of Kenya Arab Moi, calling continued efforts to maintain reconciliation in Somalia so as to return back to its Arab and African environment.
For his part, the Secretary general of the Arab League Amre Mousa stressed in an inaugural speech that the Arab League is working to maintain a new and vaster Afro-Arab cooperation based on developmental, economic, social and cultural basics.
