Canada offers $ 37 million soft loan to Egypt
Egypt-Canada, Economics, 1/10/2002

Egyptian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Fayza Abu E1 Naga will meet with Canadian Citizenship and Immigration Minister Elinor Caplan, who arrived in Cairo Tuesday.

"The aim of Caplan's visit is to offer the Egyptian government a $ 37 million soft loan to help the country purchase Canadian equipment," said sources in the Canadian Embassy in Cairo.

"The visit comes as part of the Canadian government's desire , to encourage Egyptians to travel to Canada and encourage Canadian tourists to come to Egypt," they said.

The sources highlighted the Canadian government's latest decision on changing a travel warning issued in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks on the US against coming to Egypt.

Caplan meet during her visit with officials at the UN refugees office to probe possible contribution by Canada to help in this field.
