Libya and Beirut's summit
Libya-Syria, Politics, 1/9/2002
The London- based al-Hayat daily said in its Tuesday's issue that Syria has strongly joined the line of dealing with the consequences which pushed Libya forward to propose transferring the Arab summit which will be held in Beirut in March 2002.
The paper added said that Damascus recommended Shiite Lebanese leaderships to halt statements targeted the Libyan President and his attendance of the summit and re- accusing Libya of its responsibilities over the disappearance of Imam Mousa al-Sader in 1978.
The paper quoted a Lebanese ministerial source as saying that these Lebanese leaderships responded to the Syrian mediation, noting that a telephone call was made two days ago between President Emil Lahoud and President Bashar al-Assad dealt with Damascus support for the Lebanese efforts in preparations for the summit.
